The 2008 chapter meeting will be held in Vancouver at UBCs new Irving K Barber Learning Centre.
At the chapter meeting the following issues were discussed and will be presented to the membership at the next chapter meeting: The number of applications for travel awards have been very low. Currently there are two $250 for the ARLIS/NA conference and two $100 for the chapter meeting. They will be changed to a single award of $500 and $200 respectively
Some clarification is needed in the wording of bylaws referring to when members lapse.

Lynne Woodruff and Jill Patrick will be part of the jury
There is a web site for Canadian publishers http://www.publishers.ca/membership-search.htm who appeared to publish some art and/or architecture books. One can search by the subject Art/Architecture and Education/Scholarly. Publishers contacted included: Arsenal Pulp Press, Banff Centre Press, Creative Book Publishing, Douglas & McIntyre, The Dundurn Group, Goose Lane Editions, The Heliconia Press, The Porcupines Quill, McGill-Queens University Press, Pacific Educational Press, P.D. Meany Publishers, University of Alberta Press, University of British Columbia Press, University of Calgary Press, University of Manitoba Press, University of Ottawa Press, University of Toronto Press, and Wilfred Laurier University Press.Jill Patrick suggested that an article announcing the award winners be submitted to Quill & Quire, and that a national Call for Submissions be placed in Q&Q as either a display ad or a classified ad. This wasnt done this year. Shall we submit this years winner to Art Doc? Do we need to amend the Award guidelines to encourage broader call for nominations and publicity of winner?
Marilyn and Liv reviewed the manual and proposed the following changes: Change "Canadian chair chooses chair" to "Canadian chair IS chair"
The chair of this committee will be a member of the committee the previous year to gain the experience necessary
The timeline was modified to align it with other awards:
May 15 - changes
July 15 0 budget request
September 15 draft
December 31 application
www.artexte.ca/ifla2008/preconference.html The 2007 Dwyer Jury expressed concern over the low number of nominations and suggested distributing the call for nominations more widely. I believe that in previous years the call for nominations mainly went out to ARLIS/NA members, throught the parent and chapter lists. This year, I distributed the call for nominations more widely.
Call for nominations was sent out to arlis-l, carlis-l, and the MOQ, Ontario and Northwest Chapter lists as well as to 18 Canadian publisherslisted on the Canadian publishers webpage:
We received 6 nominations, 4 of which were from publishers and 2 from ARLIS colleagues. This is not significantly more than in previous years. Another related suggestion was to publicize the winner more widely. At our Atlanta meeting,
We need to take it upon ourselves to submit nominations for this award.
Feb 15 notifications
Karen McKenzie suggested to publicize the award with museums and galleries
Jill Patrick suggested we have more formal press release that can be distributed widely
11. Inclusion of Melva J. Dwyer Award in ARLIS/NA Awards Manual
Inclusion in the Awards Committee to assist with promotion of the Dwyer Award
13. ARLIS/NA Canada Web Site Report (James Rout) http://jrout.banff.org/
12. ARLIS/NA Assessment Task Force Recommendations - Canadian Representative and ARLIS/NA Canada roles: updateJill Patrick requested that the ARLIS/NA board should reconsider the multilingual issue, adding that it is unacceptable to not have formal translation process in place. This sentiment was echoed by many others at the meeting July 2007 moved chapter web site to new more-stable server
Problem with transfer of diacritics
ARLIS/NA Executive Board Canadian Member-at-large position vote passed along with other bylaw changes this winter
New International Relations Committee (IRC) Charge
Conference sessions in French and Spanish
Board and Publications Committee discussion regarding translator Suggest that ARLIS/NA Canada creates a translator officer position and appoints someone to translate chair reports, chapter minutes, etc. Make motion to create this position and ask for volunteers?
Suggest that special funding requests are used to translate important Society documents into both French and Spanish for website, such as bylaws
Could also suggest other languages for promotional materials developed together with Membership Committee with special funding request
ACTION: Liv Valmestad will bring this issue back to the board.
